Blaidd the Dog needs a home

German Shepherd dogs, as well as the other herding breeds that we have in rescue, are highly active, energetic, working breeds. They require considerable vetting, exercise, socialization, training, leadership and mental stimuli in order to be well-adjusted, well-balanced, and well-mannered dogs.

Blaidd (pronounced Blythe) is a super handsome, very sweet young boy who came to us from a Reservation in SD, with a badly crushed foot. The damage was extensive, as he had many crushed bones. Saving Blaidd's foot (and avoiding an amputation) was our main concern, as we wanted this super sweet, active, otherwise healthy youngster, to have the best possible quality of life.



Many of you have followed Blaidd’s story and donated towards his care, and we are so thankful! For anyone who may not be familiar with his story, Blaidd initially had surgery on the reservation, right after being rescued. When he arrived in Omaha, he was immediately seen by the fantastic orthopedic specialists at Sirius Veterinary Orthopedic Center who took x-rays, splinted his food, and for the next month, Blaidd was on crate rest while receiving wound care and bandage changes several times a week. Unfortunately, a month later, it became apparent that Blaidd would require additional surgery in order to save his foot. Many of you generously donated and came to support our fundraisers for Blaidd at Two Fine Irishmen, and later at Vino Mas. Thanks to the outpouring of support, and the kindness of our friends and supporters, we met our fundraising goal! Two surgeries later, and after several months of restricted activity, skilled bandage changes, and rehab exercises, Blaidd’s repaired paw finally has healed, and he has cleared without any limitations! Blaidd is once again able to walk, run, jump, and enjoy a full, active life!

 


This is what Blaidd’s absolutely fabulous foster mom has to say about him: “Blaidd is a sweet, gentle boy. During the times that he was in extreme pain he never tried to bite his caregivers nor did he get grumpy. Although his name means “Wolf” in Welsh his sunny disposition belies the name. Blaidd is slightly smaller than the average German Shepherd (50 lbs) but his heart is big.  He loves people and has spent time around older children. While a bit shy sometimes, with appropriate introductions he loves other dogs and plays with (and gently licks) the foster cat. He is still a puppy in his enthusiastic approach to life. Blaidd recently completed beginning Obedience at the top of his class and would enjoy taking a class with his forever family! Blaidd came into rescue with a severe left hind leg and foot injury. After extensive surgery and rehabilitation he has been cleared to do any normal dog activities including Agility and Flyball! He has an excellent nose and would enjoy learning more Tracking skills. His foot may be sensitive for a few more months but it doesn’t slow him down. Blaidd is happiest when he is with his people and dog friends. This loving boy is potty-trained, crate-trained, loves car rides, is good with bathing and nail trims, and walks well on lead. He is a true Velcro dog and sleeps on his foster mom’s bed with the other dogs and cats.”

Blaidd is such a gentle, friendly, and sweet, happy boy! He will be the delight of any active, German Shepherd lover. At no time during any of his ordeals, did Blaidd let his injury get in the way of enjoying his new wonderful life in his awesome foster home. He adores all people, dogs, and cats, and truly has a wonderful personality. Everyone who meets Blaidd falls in love in with. All that he needs now, to have his happily-ever-after, is a great forever home!

Blaidd will need an active home able to provide daily walks, in addition to backyard playtime, outings for socialization, and the usual training that GSD youngsters require. In exchange, he will be the most loyal, lovable companion you could ask for!

Like all German Shepherd youngsters, Blaidd will need training, consistency, boundaries, and lots of activity and socialization. Our dogs make great additions to active families who will pamper them, but who will also work with them, as they are smart dogs who need leadership, plenty of activity and mental stimulation. 


Reminder: Even if you exercise and play with your dog daily in your fenced yard, please remember that, you MUST still take your dog out on daily walks and outings, in order to work on his/her leash skills, manners, and social skills.
